BBC2 (Cappuccino 2) 2007

This is one of my favourite Idents because I think its quite cute and i like how the number 2 is shown in the Cappuccino. I think that this could of gone wrong because the number 2 could of came up quite messy and could of been ruined but I like how its neat and you can see it clearly.
I would like to re-create something like this because i think that its quite nice and easy to do.

BBC2 Ident Chase new

I really like this bbc2 ident because its not something that would of been done before. I like how the human is still in the ident and you can see through the number 2 to see the rest of the people in the Ident.
I would like to do something like this because the number 2 is actually being used in the Ident and its very bold and big so you can see it clearly.

If I could change anything it would be that I would of made the whole video brighter because the grey background and the grey top the human has on makes the whole video a bit dull.

Studio Equipment we used

Canon 5D
 Cambo Camera Stand
 Soft box wafers/Striplight wafer
 Sync Lead
 Bowens Pulsar Radio triggers
 Bowens 500w Lighting
 Canon 24-105mm zoom lens

Video Takes

We did many takes of videos. Our first idea was that we were going to have the camera following a torch and then a different coloured torch was going to drop on the floor and the camera would quickly move to follow the noise. And at this point we were going to edit the light-drawing No.2 in to this clip so when the camera looked at the dropped torch the number 2 would be there. We did this many times as we needed to know whether it required flash or not, also whether we could change the way the video was staged.

We changed the idea around because we knew that editing the no.2 from the light drawing in would of been quite hard, so we decided to use the number 2 silhouette and put the torches inside. We did this many times.
The first time we did it in the dark with a torch attached to the umbrella so when the umbrella flew in the air the camera would notice and all of a sudden see the number 2. But we found it hard to keep the Number 2 out of the camera whilst we tried to capture the umbrella in the air. If we did this again I think we would of used more of the floor area in the studio so the two objects were separated so they didnt clash during the filming.
The final video that we would we thought was quite simple but clever. We made George walk across the studio floor but only have his feet in the camera whilst the number 2 was in the middle of the screen. Originally we thought we were going to act as if we just finished filming a clip and everyone was leaving but forgot to turn the lights off in the number 2 so when the lights went off the number 2 was still lit up. We thought this was quite good because the number 2 doesn't look like it was left there deliberately and I wouldnt of thought this would of been done before.

If we did this again, we think we would use more lights in the number 2 or make everything a bit bigger. Also, we would probably add speech to make the video seem more like a scene. Considering we changed the idea many times we thought these were good experiments because it broadens the ideas we can use to create the BBC 2 Ident.

Light Drawing Tests

Today we went into the studio and created some light drawings for our BBC 2 Ident. Because the light drawings wouldn't work if we videoed them we took some photographs to see whether we could layer the images together to make a video.
These images worked quite well as all the colours can be seen and the background is pitch black, the only thing we found difficult was making sure all the colours could be seen and they didn't collide together to make a blur.

However, these images are quite weak and the colours are not as bold as the others we have done. We did change the aperture allowing more light to get in which made the images more bold and colourful.

We tried to add flash to the images but this made the background and the person holding the light show up which didn't look as effective as it was with the black background. Putting the flash on also took the vibrancy away from the coloured torches.

We tried to take the lightdrawings a step further by writing our letters which we were later going to edit together so the word BBC 2 showed up during the video.

Some colours worked better than others. The pink and blue showed up well and the colours were bright whereas the green above came out white in some images which we found difficult to change.

We changed the shape and colour of the number 2 quite a lot to see which worked better and the colours ended up showing up very well.

We finally decided that we were going to move away from the light drawing idea for our final piece purely because we would need to spend a lot of time editing the clips to make all the images run as one and make sure none of the drawings were missing.
In the end we decided to use the plastic 2 silhouette and put lights inside of it and create a short video.
We found this worked better because it ran through the whole video and we could do whatever we wanted with it, whereas with the light drawings we always had to keep in mind that we needed to edit the clips thoroughly to make a smooth ran clip.

Ideas For BBC 2 Idents

I thought that we could video an un-inflated balloon on the floor and scan around the whole object, and whilst its blowing up make it look slow motion and then make it appear against a background when its fully blown up.

Another idea is that we could start the camera facing a huge sheet on metal and whilst its zooming out, a number '2' could be cut into the sheet whilst the camera is zooming out slowly. And at the end the part of metal used for the number '2' falls out and it leaves a number '2' outline in the metal. Like this image but using metal instead.

Another idea is that the camera shows someone pulling the rope on a flag pole and it zooms out and surrounds the flag pole and when it zooms out fully it shows a number 2 flag blowing in the wind.

These are past Idents from the BBC 2 website, these have given us a lot of ideas about how to approach this. We are trying to keep away from an obvious ident which could of easily been done before.

I really like this ident because its clever and I think the end product looks really good.

Introduction - BBC 2 Indents

For this assignment, we have been asked to create a new 'ident' for BBC 2. This is a short creative clip which is show briefly in between programmes. We have been given 6 weeks to complete this task. To do this, we have been split into working groups and each person has a designated role within the project.
There are several different roles to be taken, such as:

Camera person (Lewis)
Lighting (Dylan)
Prop Styles (Sam)
Editor (George)
Set Designer (Charley, me)

I have been given the role as Set Designer which means I will have to create and design the set we will be using to shoot the short Ident. However, even though we have all been given specific roles, we will each need to help out others in different roles when we are needed to help complete the video.

We have chosen George to be our team leader to make sure all the different areas are being completed so the process of creating the Ident will run smoothly.

The filming of this project will be done by either a Digital Video Camera or a Flip Video Camera. The footage will then be edited using iMovie or Final Cut Pro. In the Ident, it must feature a number '2' (size and quantity can vary) and associated props must be made to a very high standard. We can ask around all departments of the college to get the props we need. Departments such as 3D, Metalwork, Joinery, Painting and Decorating etc, can help us with the process of this assignment.
We are aiming for the ident to last between 10-30 seconds, and the sound must be ambient in nature and appropriate for the general idea of the Ident.
